§ The Chapter

One hundred and thirty-six years of wool, traced from this valley to the loom.

Big Hole Wool Co. has produced Targhee wool from the same Beaverhead Valley pastures since 1889. Every spring the band of 2,800 ewes is sheared on the place, the clip skirted by hand, and graded before it leaves the barn.

The chapter sells the wool back to its members as finished goods: blankets, sweaters, and outerwear milled in Montana, Pennsylvania, and Maine. Every garment is traceable to the band, the shearing, and the mill.

§ The Storefront

From the Big place.

Every garment traceable to this operation. Cooperative economics: proceeds route back to the ranch.
